Here’s How You Do It:

First consider the weather and check to see that it will sync with your vision as certain times of the year, it is quite rainy.

Camping – Reserve in advance for any of the coastal spots as they book out. The Oregon State Parks site offers a wealth of information on hiking, backpacking, and camping at all state parks.

*For destination camping, see this article.

~Location: Bullards Beach Camping is just north of Bandon and Bandon is 247 miles from Portland. The campground is beach side. Shore Acres is located north of Bandon and near the town of Charleston and the botanical gardens, within the park, is not to be missed.

~Ranger Station: None listed within the vicinity, however, here is an information number  for the park (541)888-3732. There are full time, on duty park employees at the entrance to Bullards and we found them to be amazing and full of terrific pointers and suggestions.

~Nearest Town And Amenities: Bandon is about 5 miles south of Bullards State Park Campground and has grocery stores (Rays is the closest) as well as restaurants (we recommend Tony’s Crab Shack), coffee, and some – rock your soul – chocolate.

~Campground/s: Bullards State Park offers numerous campsites near the ocean. Mix of tents and RVs, not a great deal of privacy but the landscape is lovely and the amenities can’t be beat.  They also have cabins and yurts available but these book quickly so don’t delay.

The Lighthouse offers guided tours, you must wear closed-toe shoes.

If you have bikes, bring them and check out these scenic bikeways.

Kayaking? Yes!

Shore Acres State Park also offers camping and has easy access to Simpson Beach, Cape Arago, and Sunset Bay Beach.

Dispersed Camping – yes, in the Tillamook area. We did not personally check this out but would love feedback, if you do.

~Warnings: Absolutely take seriously rough water, currents, and any warnings regarding unpredictable surf.

~Suggestions:  Ask park employees for suggestions as we found the South Slough via a park employee. Make sure to be at Bandon State Beach for sunset, stunning!
